It Works
Anyone can suggest solving a problem through mediation. Some disputes or personal issues can be resolved in a few hours without the need to initiate a lawsuit.
When litigation has begun, it’s common for courts to require some form of informal dispute resolution, such as mediation or arbitration, to ensure responsible outcomes prior to resources being dispensed for a formal trial. Mediation works. Examples of cases ripe for mediation include a:
- personal injury matter
- small business dispute
- family law issue
- real estate dispute, and
- breach of contract
The complexity of the case is a factor in how long it takes to resolve it. Somewhat straightforward cases will resolve in a half day while more complicated cases will require a full day of mediation with on-going negotiations continuing after mediation ends. If a settlement is not reached, either side can file a lawsuit or continue pursuing the current case.
Family Law: Divorce, Child Custody, Community Property
Louisiana requires extensive training to be a Family Law mediator, including 40 hours of classroom training, and practical experience. The state also requires continuing education to maintain qualification. Alexandra Mora is a qualified mediator, approved to mediate child custody cases. She has helped mediate sensitive issues in family law cases. Through Loyola Law School, she is regularly called upon to assist train new mediators in their 40-hour mediation course.
